Dongle upgrade: End of support for HASP HL dongles in Analyzer 2.2.1

As Windows® operating systems and dongle technology evolve, we have to take precautions to keep BrainVision Analyzer 2 compatible. Our USB license dongles can be configured either as HASP HL or as Sentinel HASP keys. HASP HL keys have served us well for a long time, however, we have been using the newer Sentinel HASP dongles already since Analyzer 2.0.3. As they have some advantages over the old dongles, such as easier configuration as well as support for add-on licenses, we have decided to finally retire HASP HL dongles. In most cases, the USB dongle can be upgraded from HASP HL to Sentinel HASP with a simple software update.

From BrainVision Analyzer 2.2.1 onwards, only Sentinel HASP dongles will be supported. All our Analyzer 2 customers are entitled to an upgrade of their HASP HL dongles to Sentinel HASP. We offer this upgrade free of charge until December 31, 2021. From January 1, 2022 costs may apply depending on the type of license key (see section 3).

In the next sections, we provide you with a self-check to assess what technology your dongle is using, and with the recommended steps how to upgrade your HASP HL dongle.

Check for dongle technology as follows:

  • Plug the dongle into a USB port of your local computer. For network dongles, you can perform the check also directly on the License Server.
  • Open the interface of the dongle driver (referred to as the Sentinel Admin Control Center) by clicking or entering http://localhost:1947 into a web browser. Then select “Sentinel Keys” from the Options menu.
  • Look for the dongle listed as “Local” under the column “Location” and check in the same line:
    1. If a button “Products” exists under the column “Actions”, it is a Sentinel HASP dongle.
→ Your dongle is already compatible with BrainVision Analyzer 2.2.1 and no upgrade is required.
    2. If the button “Products” does not exist, it is a HASP HL dongle.
→ Your dongle requires an upgrade to be used with BrainVision Analyzer 2.2.1.
  • If your dongle is not listed as “Local” under “Location”, it means that it is a network key that is plugged remotely. Click on the server name displayed as “Location” to open the Sentinel Admin Control Center on the remote machine, and check here for the above.

Please note: Once a dongle is upgraded to Sentinel HASP technology, this dongle will no longer support Analyzer versions older than 2.0.3, including all versions of Analyzer 1. An upgraded dongle cannot be downgraded again.

The upgrade will be handled differently for network and single licenses. Please read the information below before submitting your request.

  • If your dongle is a network license key, i.e. the dongle label starts with the letter N followed by five digits, your key needs to be replaced with a new Sentinel HASP network dongle providing the same licenses as your old dongle. Please submit your request via the form below or alternatively contact your local distributor about exchanging your network dongle. From January 1, 2022 replacement dongles for network licenses are subject to charge.
  • If your dongle is a single license key, i.e., the dongle label starts with the letter U or V followed by five digits, your key can be upgraded via installing an update. To create your personal update, we will need a C2V file from your dongle. You can find all information on how to create a C2V file on this page (see “Create C2V” below ). Please submit your request via the form below and include your C2V file as attachment. Updates for single license dongles will be free of charge beyond January 1, 2022.

For how we handle the personal data you submit via the following form, please take a look at our Privacy Policy.

Please note that you will need to submit a separate upgrade request for each dongle. You can either submit the dongle label (printed on the dongle casing) or the Key ID (listed in the Sentinel Admin Control Center). Including a C2V file with your request is only required for single license dongles (i.e. local dongles).

Required steps for Sentinel HASP upgrade – only for single license dongles

To upgrade your HASP HL dongle, please provide a C2V file that you can create yourself following the steps below.

  1. Connect only the HASP HL dongle that should be upgraded to Sentinel HASP to the PC.
  2. Go to the local dongle configuration page.
  3. If not enabled, check the option “Generate C2V file for HASP key” under Configuration > Basic Settings
(confirm with Submit). If this option is not offered, please update your dongle driver first.
  4. Go to “Sentinel Keys”.
  5. Click on [C2V] in the Actions column for the relevant dongle.
  6. Click [Create C2V File] and save the file.
  7. Include the generated C2V file in your dongle upgrade request via the form (see the “Dongle upgrade request form” above).
  8. Within the next days, you will receive an email with instructions how to apply the update to your dongle.
